Room by Ikea

First off, boy #1 is not grabbing boy #2's butt. Oy, forgive me for even writing that sentence. We were walking around Ikea when Greg and I noticed the boys walking arm in arm. I love to capture memories like that. I didn't realize that I captured the hug in motion, which resulted in a strange picture. Walking around Ikea often causes me to break out in a spontaneous hug as well.....just a warning in case we ever shop Ikea together.

{in process of being changed}
So, yeah.....we decided to sign the lease on our temporary abode for 1 more year. March will end the second year in our new state. We literally went up to the very last minute with our decision.....our realtor is still sending us house pictures. We are going to take another year to decide about a few things. Is this where we want to be? Should be? If we stay, which town will we settle in?  When we decided to hold off on purchasing a home, we started looking into moving to a new temp place. The hunt got too confusing, and we realized we are pretty content where we are.

Well, except that the walls are too thin for our taste, we have an interesting neighbor who likes to hang out in his window (absorbing vitamin D) wearing only his knickers for hours each day, and the boys need more space. Otherwise, we are trying to continue to view this as a fun adventure. How many times will we get to live in a funky apartment 25 miles outside of NYC? Probably not many.

{ahhh, white bookcases }

With all that being said, we decided that if we were going to stay another year then we would change a few things. You may remember this. It worked fine for us, but I was hoping for some brighter colors, and a simpler look in our homeschool area. A trip to Ikea and only $130($40+$50 for the bookcases, desks were $20 each) bought us 2 bookcases and 2 desks {I had one bookcase, and the chairs came from storage}.
I still am feeling worn out from this cold, but I was determined to get everything back on the shelves.
These are quick pictures.....hoping to purge some of the books, organize and hang some things on the walls. I've figure out that I like changing things up, and sometimes it takes a while before you get it right. I also learned that I should turn off the lights before taking pictures.

We are thinking of getting bunk beds for the boys. What do you think? Wonder what the odds are for falling off the top bunk?

Two things cracked me up: 1) the picture, of course. I thought there was a story about one grabbing the other's butt not that you caught the beginning of the hug. Cute boys though who love on each other!

2) the neighbor hanging out in his knickers?!?! Knickers? Who wears knickers?

This post made me laugh.
:)
I hope I will be one of those people that gets a spontaneous hug while at Ikea. Are those white chairs from Ikea (I know you said they were in storage, but originally?)?

I almost spilled my tea laughing at these comments. I called my neighbor's undies "knickers". He actually sits in this boxers and yanks the legs up. My next door neighbor and I are disturbed and fascinated. I'm trying to get a picture for ya.

The chairs were from Ikea about 3 yrs ago. I've seen them other places...I think Walmart! I'm pretty sure they were under $20. And yes, Carole, I guarantee there will be hugs during our Ikea trip (and chocolate, possibly swedish meatballs!)

Just so you know, the odds for falling from the top bunk are greater than I initially thought.... my 23 year-old niece recently fell off the top bunk in her dorm room.

If a 23-year old (who should have better judgement, even in her sleep) can take a fall.... I wouldn't take the chance unless the top bunk has real STURDY rails.

Your neighbour cracks me up! :D

Thanks, Ruth! I've been wondering about that. I hope your niece is ok!!

She had some shoulder issues for a while, which was better than expected since she's your FLOTUS's build with 'D cups'. I'm guessing a smaller person would have a more 'feathery' descent. :-/

Her shoulder is doing a lot better these days though. So, the good news is... it gets better... eventually. ;)

Wait! College bunk beds don't have rails.

We have bunk beds in both the boys' and the girls' rooms and I would NEVER turn back. Boys have been sleeping bunked since they were 4 & 6, and girls have been bunked since 4 & 5.

Boys' we got at City Mattress and spent about $700. They are beautiful. We had less money the next time and got the girls' at WalMart. They are also beautiful. They were $200. Theirs is showing wear, however. But for $200 we are okay with that. I love how it opens up floor space. Like I said, I would NEVER go back to regular side-by-side beds. Too much wasted space!

Oh - and none of them have ever falled out AND the boys [now 9 & 11] sleep TOGETHER in the top bunk 6 out of 7 nights! Seriously. I guess I could have just bought them a single bed. ;)

falled out? - fallen out? off to wake up properly.

Thanks, Stacy! That was helpful info.
I have a feeling that the twins would end up in the same bunk, too. I love the idea of opening up floor space....changing sheets on the top bunk concerns me. I always wanted a bunk bed as a child :) (I slept on the bottom bunk in college-didn't love that)

you change sheets?

It is a struggle, honestly. But they are getting good at doing it themselves. Albeit not as often as Martha Stewart would recommend.

We love ours.
