Getting into Our Thang

We have entered into the .....finding our groove mode. It happens every September. I'm getting pretty used to it....especially the discouraging thoughts that come with finding our groove. My motto this school year is......

1. I will not compare.....no ma'am, not going to happen.

2. I will view our homeschooling journey as unique and make it our own.

3. I will allow my house to get messy while I give specific attention to the boys....having a messy house will also include- not putting on clothes until I determine is necessary, if necessary.

4. I will realize that we will not always get our "seat work" done in the morning. In fact, we can come up with our own unique schedule-to be changed when I determine is necessary, if necessary.

5. I will keep in mind that these days are precious.....the boys will not want me to play with them forever.

6. I will maintain my.....heart of a child with the body of a 42 yr old.....in doing so, my body of a 42 yr old just may stay fit and full of energy.

7. I will refer to this list on days where I lose focus.....forget why I am homeschooling....or discouragement creeps in.

8. I will try to keep computer time to a minimum.....or at least stay off until I determine is necessary, if necessary.

Above is a picture of some books I found for about $3 total.....love it. Below is a picture of the boys playing one of our favorite games.....Scrambled States of America.

This is a great list. It is easy to compare ourselves to what others are doing and feel discouraged. I do that sometimes and then realize our family is unique too!
Lol about the clothes when necessary. I like my pj's too.

No clothes at all, or just "presentable" clothes? :)

No comparing, that's definitely number one.

Sounds like you are starting off on the right foot! Yeah, I was wondering about the clothes too:-D

Not comparing...that's a tough one for me.

And I'm with you on the clothes thing....still in my jammies. At 1:00 in the afternoon. As it should be.

You have got such a GREAT attitude about your home schooling...it will be a success, because attitude is everything.

Here's to a great school year, for you the teacher, and for the boys...the students!

Mimi, you have an amazing attitude and so much happy energy, your family is so blessed!!!
I am so insanely busy now with family and my business I feel like I'm sinking in quick sand. My husband is trying to get me to breath and take it one day at a time. He is right. I'm taking everyday this week to be with the boys all day long and working late at night or early in the am. tomorrow we are off to the museum of natural history, everything else can wait!!
btw. you look like you are in your 20's!!
Thanks for getting me focused, and more relaxed

Love the list! Isn't it completely freeing to know that we really don't have to compare ourselves or our homeschools because God has a unique plan for each of us...and then even a unique plan for each child within that family!! Whew! I'm feelin' so fancy free after reading this post...I just might stay in my jammies all day today, too!! :o)

We moved to five acres ten years ago. Love doing life together with my kids ... aka homeschooling; and the land makes it less 'fishbowl-ish'

Great post. I'm so sad because my little one went off to kindergarten. Now I only have the middle one at home and that's sad. I wish God was calling for me to homeschool all of them...and the last comment about "fishbowl-ish"...is so true!

Oh how I love this list, so very much.

Goodness, how easily we do fall in to things being a certain way or compare to others...and it's a tough "thing" to hold to but we, as homeschoolers MUST do it!! :)

I will refer to this list too when I need a boost!!

Great words!

Miss and Love You.

I love your list. I think you are so good at what you do. And I am really proud of you. And, I would like to kiss the cheeks of the boys. They are so cute. Man! I just want to squeeze them!
